Alberto Giacometti. Retour à la figuration

Giovanni Giacometti, not only the father, but also an important point of reference of Alberto Giacometti, died in 1933. This led to Giacometti´s withdrawal from the surrealist group around Andre Breton and to a renewed interest in a naturalistic depiction. The works he produced after 1935 are characterized by their reduced, essential design.
This volume covers Giacometti´s art and life between 1933 and 1947. The texts interpret the numerous studies in pencil and plaster as a break with the surrealistic art and an important step in finding an individual artistic voice.
