Molema´s fascination with the work of Gaudí led him to the analysis of the mechanics, the structure and the building methods of his buildings. In the days when the official Art History, and even the Architectural History considered Gaudí as a rara avis with no connection with the modern movements and as an isolated artistic phenomena, Molema decided to penetrate in the most profound of his architecture, to discover the ultimate reason of his forms, that always respond to functional principles based on calculation and analysis, and result in the special geometry.
This passion, nearly an obsession, led him to dedicate his doctoral thesis to Gaudí in 1987. Before that he founded the Gaudi-groep in Delft in 1975 and in 1978 published the first of the three editions of Gaudí, rationalist met perfecte materiaalbeheersing, a decisive book that decisively changed the focus of the research of Gaudí´s work, opening a path followed since then by many specialists and enriched in recent years with the tools offered by new technologies for analysis that allow to discover the ever more interesting invisible Gaudí.
